Do you spend hours scrolling through instagram looking at all the vibrant, crazy hair colours wondering if you should just be brave and go for it? This is for you. There’s a few things you should know before you book that appointment to have rainbow hair,
It’s highly likely we’ll need to bleach your hair.
Bright or pastel colours need to be very light blonde hair to show up, so before we can give you that pastel mane or those crazy vibrant locks we need to bleach your hair as light as possible. How light it lifts determines the colour palette we can choose from. We are always happy to do a strand test for you so we can know this before we start to bleach.
It will be a long appointment.
This type of colour is a double process. As we said we will need to bleach your hair first, then apply the final colour, you may even need a toner in-between the two, so prepare to be in the salon for a few hours at least, especially if you are going for an all over colour.
The integrity of your hair is the most important thing.
There is no point bleaching your hair to the point of breakage to achieve that perfect pastel shade, if its not in good condition it won’t look good anyway, so trust us when we say “that’s as light as we can get it” what we mean is that’s as light as we can get it without causing damage, there may well be some one who says “I can get it lighter” but at what cost to the condition of your hair? Trust us it’s not worth it.
Olaplex is a necessity.
Olaplex is a bond builder, the tag line is “insurance for your hair” and it’s true, before olaplex a lot of the transformations you see were not possible without severely damaging the hair. If you’re going to have all that bleaching and then another colour (i.e. another chemical service) on top then it’s important you do everything you can to maintain the condition. For us olaplex is a must with almost every colour.
Fashion colours fade.
Be prepared for your colour to fade in just a few washes, they are direct dyes which means they stain the outside of the hair so wash away each time you wash your hair, not only this but with the bleach underneath your hair will be more porous which again will make it fade. The more vibrant you are to start the longer it will last, if you are going for a pastel hue be prepared to top it up very regularly.
High Maintenance is the only way to be.
With all that going on it’s really important to keep your hair healthy so it holds on to the colour better and treat it carefully so you can get the most out of it. Sulphate free shampoo is a big help, sulphates are quite harsh cleansers so will fade your colour much faster, sticking to good quality sulphate free shampoo will keep it looking better for longer. You will need a really good conditioner, bleached hair always needs moisture and protein so having a good conditioner will help your new colour shine, and make it so much easier to detangle! Also minimise the use of heat and try not to wash your hair too often.
Treatments and Masks
If even after all that you still want to go bright or pastel book in for a complimentary consultation and we’ll do all the necessary tests to make sure its perfect for you.
If you are anything like us then the idea of neon hair sounds like something you really need to try, it’s awesome trust us! We have just added a range of neon hair colours to our colour menu and we want to try them all. These new colours show up as bright vivid colours in normal light but glow neon under a U.V light.

We are pleased (and extremely excited!) to announce the arrival of Ikoo brushes at Square. These amazing brushes are the detangling tool you need with the added function of giving you a head massage at the same time!
The 3 key features that define the unique potential of the Ikoo brush are:
It’s optimised bristle architecture to painlessly detangle the hair and prevent breakage, or ripping hair out at the root.
The concave shape of the Ikoo is the perfect fit for the human skull, this ergonomic feature allows for the manual pressure when brushing to be evenly distributed.
The Ikoo massages the scalp with it’s purpose built bristle flexibility and hits important acupunture points as you brush your hair.
The painless brushing of hair can be a useful contribution towards the relief of several symptoms, Experts of Traditional Chinese Medicine recommend daily brushing with the Ikoo brush as part of a holistic therapy concept, Traditionally head massages are used in almost all cultures. This is because unconscious negative energy stagnates in the head and neck area, due to over working and over thinking. Most people don’t have the ability to get a head massage everyday so the Ikoo brush is the perfect solution.
There are two sizes of Ikoo available, The Home Brush at £17.95 and The Pocket Brush at £15.95.
Both are available at Square or on our online shop here.
We had a look through pretty much all the popular men’s hairstyles and chose these as our Summer favourites.
- The Peaky Blinder
Going nowhere anytime soon, this cut with it’s shaved short sides and length on top with a defined edge is still one of the biggest styles for Summer.
2. Longish and Layered
Again it’s been around for some time but this cut os perfect for Summer if you like to surf or spend time on the beach, easily styled with some salt spray and a matt paste.
3. Modern Textured Crop
A slight twist on the classic textured crop as this style has shorter sides and a little bit of length left on the fringe area, but still very textured through the top. Perfect if you want to update your style without too much of a change.
4. Blunt Fringe with Fade
A bit more of an extreme look than the modern textured crop but if you’re brave enough this is most definitely the style of the season. It can be customised by altering the length of the fringe and the texture/bluntness of the fringe, also the fade doesn’t necessarily need to be that tight, but we say if you’re going to do it you might as well go for it, it’ll grow back soon enough!
We scrolled through all the images of Men’s Fashion Week to check the trends set to show up in men’s hair. Good news if you like your hair short the buzz cut is going nowhere! Also still going strong is the longer textured cut, but if you like to stand out that little bit more our favourite are the styles with the short close sides and heavier longer fringe.
However if you’re not that brave you could try this version.
We’re really looking forward to seeing these styles out and about!
We scoured the internet for the best festival hair inspiration to see you through the season. Some of these looks can be created by yourself at home, others are a bit more difficult, but you can come see us for that!
- The Pixie
Probably the most perfect style for festivals, up and out of the way for when you know you won’t be washing your hair for a few days. The Pixie is knotted braids with your baby hair left out, it’s a style that you don’t want to be too perfect and looks effortlessly cool. The Pixie is available in salon as part of our Fashion Fix dry styling menu priced at £20.
2. The Braided Top Knot
Create this festival style by taking a large triangle section on the top front of your head and french plait it towards the crown leaving the hair outside the triangle down, once you’ve secured the braid create a top knot with the top half of your hair including the sides. Add a bit of colour with Label.m Highlighting Toners available in the salon for £10.95
3. Glitter Roots
Glitter roots has to be the easiest look to recreate, just apply some gel to your roots and apply the glitter! The grey colour here really works for this style but if you have pre lightened hair we have a huge range of beautiful bespoke pastel shades, vibrant rainbow shades and neon/U.V colours, available in salon starting from £20. *Skin test required for colour services*
If you love the floaty romantic side of the festival vibe then these looks are for you. You can even add accessories to make it even more romantic!
We will definitely be trying out all these styles this summer, we might even add a pop of colour too!
Spring is upon us and it’s time to update your style, texture is back in a big way as you’ll see! Here is our pick of the best men’s hair cuts for Spring.
- Textured Crop
The hair cut that works for pretty much all hair types and is perfect for Spring as there is still a bit of length to it so it’s not Summer short, but still sharp enough to look cool and all you need is to run a bit of label.men max wax through to keep it looking great.
2. Textured Fringe
This cut is a variation of the textured crop just with shorter sides and back, and a longer fringe towards to the front with lots of texture. Slightly more difficult to manage if your hair tends to stick up at the front, but still easily maintainable with a bit of label.men grooming cream scrunched through to show off the texture.
3. Textured Top
This hair cut is very similar to the last with it’s short sides and longer length on the top, however the difference here is that thickness and hair movement are being used to create the texture, the top is also longer through out not just on the fringe. The best way to style this hair cut is with label.men thickening tonic, spray it in to wet hair and then scrunch it as it dries to create movement within the thickness.
4. The Fade
This style has been around for some time and seems to be becoming a classic, maybe update it a little by by adding texture to the top with label.m matt paste.
Now the shows have finished for another season we thought we would put our absolute favourite hair looks from across all the big four fashion weeks New York, London, Milan and Paris in one place. We will be prepared with all our hair looks for Autumn/Winter 17/18.
A common theme running throughout the shows was the centre part, perfectly clean and crisp every time. The best way to achieve this is to use a pin tail comb and put the parting in when the hair is wet and then dry your hair in to place making sure the part remains.
The look we most want to recreate is the wavy textured pony tails we saw at burberry, perfect for Summer as well as Autumn/Winter, and definitely one you can recreate your self with a sea salt spray and texturisier.
Second to that was the super natural waves at Fendi. Easy to recreate quickly in the morning before work. Sea salt spray is going to be our must have product for this season!
We loved the braids at Antonio Beradi, messy and textured we might pinch this one for summer too! (sea salt spray again!)
So we’ll be all sea salt spray, waves, braids and pony tails next time you see us!
As Paris Fashion week gets under way we thought we’d take a look at the most wearable hair styles from Milan fashion week. There was a strong continuation of the pony tail, seen at a few shows both sleek and messy but our favourite was the textured pony tails at Burberry styled by Sam Mcknight, definitely one we can work out how to do ourselves and it looks great for both smart and casual.
Another favourite look of ours was the loose waves seen at Fendi, again styled by Sam Mcknight these waves look effortless and a follow on from the air drying trend we expect to see this Spring/Summer.
With both of those looks being so natural it was nice to see a bit of bright colour at Versace. Wella global creative director Josh Wood added strands of vibrant colour to the models hair making it just that bit more exciting and adding a bit of brightness to an otherwise natural looking style.
The best thing about all these looks is they can all be adapted for Spring/Summer so if you can’t wait till Autumn/Winter it’s fine just start now!
