Do you spend hours scrolling through instagram looking at all the vibrant, crazy hair colours wondering if you should just be brave and go for it? This is for you. There’s a few things you should know before you book that appointment to have rainbow hair,
It’s highly likely we’ll need to bleach your hair.
Bright or pastel colours need to be very light blonde hair to show up, so before we can give you that pastel mane or those crazy vibrant locks we need to bleach your hair as light as possible. How light it lifts determines the colour palette we can choose from. We are always happy to do a strand test for you so we can know this before we start to bleach.
It will be a long appointment.
This type of colour is a double process. As we said we will need to bleach your hair first, then apply the final colour, you may even need a toner in-between the two, so prepare to be in the salon for a few hours at least, especially if you are going for an all over colour.
The integrity of your hair is the most important thing.
There is no point bleaching your hair to the point of breakage to achieve that perfect pastel shade, if its not in good condition it won’t look good anyway, so trust us when we say “that’s as light as we can get it” what we mean is that’s as light as we can get it without causing damage, there may well be some one who says “I can get it lighter” but at what cost to the condition of your hair? Trust us it’s not worth it.
Olaplex is a necessity.
Olaplex is a bond builder, the tag line is “insurance for your hair” and it’s true, before olaplex a lot of the transformations you see were not possible without severely damaging the hair. If you’re going to have all that bleaching and then another colour (i.e. another chemical service) on top then it’s important you do everything you can to maintain the condition. For us olaplex is a must with almost every colour.
Fashion colours fade.
Be prepared for your colour to fade in just a few washes, they are direct dyes which means they stain the outside of the hair so wash away each time you wash your hair, not only this but with the bleach underneath your hair will be more porous which again will make it fade. The more vibrant you are to start the longer it will last, if you are going for a pastel hue be prepared to top it up very regularly.
High Maintenance is the only way to be.
With all that going on it’s really important to keep your hair healthy so it holds on to the colour better and treat it carefully so you can get the most out of it. Sulphate free shampoo is a big help, sulphates are quite harsh cleansers so will fade your colour much faster, sticking to good quality sulphate free shampoo will keep it looking better for longer. You will need a really good conditioner, bleached hair always needs moisture and protein so having a good conditioner will help your new colour shine, and make it so much easier to detangle! Also minimise the use of heat and try not to wash your hair too often.
Treatments and Masks
If even after all that you still want to go bright or pastel book in for a complimentary consultation and we’ll do all the necessary tests to make sure its perfect for you.

Wella Professionals have just launched an incredible new colour range and we’re so excited! Color Fresh Create is a series of pure tone semi-permanent colours consisting of 12 vibrant shades (and a clear shade to dilute the vibrants in to beautiful pastels). All the colours are fully intermixable allowing you limitless creative opportunities with your hair. These new colours are also designed to fade in to beautiful pastels as they wash out so you don’t get any of those weird tones once it starts to fade.
Naturally we had to try it first so we opted for one colour from the cool side of the pallet and diluted it to make a pastel and then one from the warm side (Hyper Coral sounded like too cool a name to not try first!) which we kept just pure as it comes out of the tube. We actually can’t wait for them to fade so we can get all the pastel shades too.
It’s here, we are in 2018 and it’s probably time to change your hair colour. We’ve been keeping our eye on the latest trends and discovered there really is something for everyone, so take a look and get inspired for your next appointment!
The colour we’ve all wanted to try at some point but unfortunately isn’t suitable for everyone or certain hair types but if you’re lucky enough to have the perfect starting point take advantage and go bold platinum or a platinum balayage for a softer effect.
Perfect if you have brown hair naturally as this trend is centred on using varying shades of browns to create a little bit of texture instead of having just a boring brown. Great on guys too looking to add just a hint of colour.
Perhaps the most noticeable trend we saw beginning to surface in late 2017 was green, deep forest greens are the way to go here and work best either as an overall colour or together with dark hair, remember though there is usually lightening services required to achieve these vivid greens.
What’s not to love! We expect to be seeing much more of this colour heading in to Spring and with so many variations it can be truly unique to you.
Which new colour will you choose to update your look with? Just remember an allergy test is required 48 hours before your appointment.
This season even the bold hair colours look like they are just meant to be, wether short or long, soft texture is the way forward. Here are our favourite winter inspiration styles.
This is the colour pallet to be working with, whatever your hair colour now you can incorporate a little bit of winter into your style.
We love this super cool wintery blonde bob. The blunt edge is perfect when styled with a bit of texture.
If you are naturally dark, adding a bit of violet looks amazing especially on long hair, style with dry shampoo or texture spray for that matte finish.
Or if you’re feeling adventurous mix up the two with this lovely soft blonde with just a hint of blue/violet through the lengths. The short textured fringe adds some interest to a long layered look.
Or if lighter really isn’t your thing then this beautiful muted auburn is perfect, it’s warm and rich without looking too artificial, the shorter areas around the face will work with almost any face shape.
So there you have it, get booked in for your Winter hair here.
Everyones hair needs a little more care attention in the Winter to avoid drying out and getting damaged once the weather changes, here are our top 5 tips to keep your hair looking and feeling amazing through out the Winter.
- First up, it may sound obvious but don’t go outside with wet hair. Wet hair is much more delicate than dry hair and the cold will make the water swell inside the hair shaft and can cause internal damage to the hair, which will affect the life of your colour as well as the condition of your hair.
- Regular trims! We know we say it all the time but in the Winter regular trims are important. Your hair will get blasted by the environment with the cold and the wind which causes damage and split ends, so make sure you are getting your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks.
- Add a weekly intensive treatment to your hair care routine. Central heating can really dry hair out so replacing the moisture lost in the winter is essential to keeping your hair looking good. Our favourite is Alterna’s Caviar Moisture Masque it’s so luxurious and leaves your hair super soft, shiny and moisturised.
- Try washing your hair slightly less often, usually in the winter it’s relatively easy to push it another day, this will help keep the natural oils in your hair and on your scalp and in turn keep it all in better condition, also it means you’ll be heat styling your hair less often which is only good news for your strands.
- Avoid hat hair with a texture spray. Once you’ve blowdried your hair, use a bit of texture spray like Alterna’s Caviar Perfect Texture Spray or label.m’s Texturising Volume Spray and then when you take your hat off you should just be able to rough up the roots a bit and completely get rid of your hat hair. (For hat hair emergencies we recommend keeping texture spray in your handbag!)
Keeping up with these little tips and making that small change to your routine will make the world of difference to the condition of you hair thought the Winter months.

We had a look through pretty much all the popular men’s hairstyles and chose these as our Summer favourites.
- The Peaky Blinder
Going nowhere anytime soon, this cut with it’s shaved short sides and length on top with a defined edge is still one of the biggest styles for Summer.
2. Longish and Layered
Again it’s been around for some time but this cut os perfect for Summer if you like to surf or spend time on the beach, easily styled with some salt spray and a matt paste.
3. Modern Textured Crop
A slight twist on the classic textured crop as this style has shorter sides and a little bit of length left on the fringe area, but still very textured through the top. Perfect if you want to update your style without too much of a change.
4. Blunt Fringe with Fade
A bit more of an extreme look than the modern textured crop but if you’re brave enough this is most definitely the style of the season. It can be customised by altering the length of the fringe and the texture/bluntness of the fringe, also the fade doesn’t necessarily need to be that tight, but we say if you’re going to do it you might as well go for it, it’ll grow back soon enough!
With all the hot weather we’ve had recently and with holidays to look forward to, we round up the best styles for Summer.
- Beach Waves
A classic, beach waves are always a summer staple style, and being the easiest to create are prefect for hot summer days and evenings. Simply spritz in some label.m sea salt spray and allow to air dry, or for more unruly coarser hair spray some Alterna Kendi Dry Oil Mist or some Alterna Caviar Moisture Milk through the ends and twist in to shape before letting your hair dry naturally.
2. Baby Braids
One step on from the beach waves is baby braids, style your hair in to beach waves and then braid some small pieces throughout your hair to add interest. If you really want to amp it up you can add in ribbon or coloured extensions.
3. Braided Bun
The best style for looking effortlessly cool even though you’re melting! The head band added here just gives it a more polished finish.
Our absolute favourite! Accessories finish any hairstyle and with so many available to choose from it’s too easy to add in to your hair.
